Save the date for equality! The 4th ERW Equality Day is upon us. Every other year, ERW joins together with Religious Coalition for Equality to bring advocates from across Washington State together in Olympia to educate state lawmakers on LGBT equality needs and rights.

The results of the 2008 election brought about both hope and heartache for the LGBT community.  Let these feelings of outrage against  anti-LGBT legislation and hope for a better future drive you to Equality Day 2009.  Be a part of the change, be a part of the movement, be a part of Equality Day 2009!

It is up to you to make your district legislators know that you care about LGBT issues and needs, help make 2009 a year they stop and listen!

9:30am:   Registration in Olympia    
10:00am: Lobby Training Workshops
11:30am: Lunch Break 
12:00pm: Rally on Capital Stairs

What if I’ve never lobbied before?
Don’t worry-many supporters have never lobbied before!  We work hard to make sure you will feel prepared and confident when you meet your district legislator through trainings the day of Equality Day, pairing you with people who have lobbied before, and empowering you with all the tools and information you need.  Just bring your story and voice and you’ll be ready!  Opportunities for pre-trainings via our website and conference calls will be available to those who register.

What if I can only come for the rally?
Then come for the rally!  We hope to have as many people possible get trained and talk with their legislators but understand due to work, family, and distance that’s not always possible.  The rally will begin approximately at 12pm at the Capital, look for ERW staff for assistance.

How do I get to Olympia?
Get on the road!  Maps and directions to Olympia will be posted closer to Equality Day, but for now think about carpooling, taking Amtrak, or using your congregation’s bus.  ERW is currently working to making busses available to Olympia from all areas across Washington, check back for more information.

I want to do more to help with Equality Day 2009, what can I do?

  • Be a volunteer! Information on how to be a volunteer is on the Equality Day Registration 
  • Be an Equality Day Co-Sponsor!
  • Rally your friends, family, congregation, or organization to be a part of Equality Day!
  • Donate the use of your congregation or organization’s bus to mobilize supporters!
  • Be an Equality Day Team Leader for your district!

I can’t come to Equality Day because of distance/commitments, how can I still be involved?
There are still several ways you can get involved with Equality Day even if you can’t be there yourself!
