Marriage Equality Interviewer
Equal
Rights Washington is collecting stories about what
marriage equality means to gay and straight residents
of Washington State. To help facilitate this effort, ERW is seeking to enlist volunteer interviewers to interview people and record their stories to be posted on our website. Eventually
we plan to compile these stories in a book to be presented
to legislators and to help personalize the importance
of marriage in the lives of LGBT people.
Duties Include:
Identify potential marriage testimony interviewees
Schedule individual interview times
Conduct Interviews
Write testimony from interviews and submit them for editing and posting on the web.
Excellent writing skills
Collect photos or other background information for posting on the web
Follow-up and thank interviewees
Desired Skills:
Ability to work well with diverse people from various backgrounds
Ability to interview and record information obtained in an interview process
Ability to follow-up and schedule interviews
Ability to identify marriage testimony interviewees
Familiarity and experience with Microsoft word and basic email programs
Commitment to LGBT civil rights
Time Commitment:
The
marriage story collection project is on going. The goal of the project is to have every volunteer interviewer interview a minimum of one person a week or four interviews each month. The time required is about 1.5 hours each week or 6 hours per month. The
time commitment may vary based upon volunteer availability.
Volunteer Interviewers
will report to ERW’s communications fellow.
